Artwork 09/10

Here is a selection of the """meaningful work""" I have made in my Art class for college over the last few months. I am aware that it is a load of pieballs but decided to put it up here just in case someone would like to have goo.

Today's piece of figurative art, using stencils I made myself of various body movements. We used different paint and print techniques to create the picture. We also included the actual stencils as they became pieces of art themselves.

The two pieces below are "self portraits", obviously I have a demonic entity inside my soul, as the second of these two looks somewhat similar to that green-vomit spitting teenager circa 1970's.... oooer

Another example of figurative art... this time with a bit of humour thrown in... She's had her head cracked open only for there to be nothing but material possessions inside... its not based on anyone I know, I swear..;)
This one pretty much speaks for itself. Its a handprint Chirtmas tree! Ho ho hoooooo!
The first (and possibly my favourite) piece created in Mountjoy Square way back in October 09. Its basically a collage of my life past, present and future.
So thats all the work I can find pictures of thus far. As an early years professional in the making, there aint much I can do along these lines with the kiddlywinks but they can be adapted by those experienced at the creative arts.
Till next time pals

Beaut.ie Guide To Gorgeous Review

Every Christmas its the same rigmorole.....gift ideas which don't involve vouchers, socks, or the infamous "cheapo smellies". As I was frantically ploughing through an Easons gift guide one Saturday afternoon, I noticed a bright pink book screaming out to me from within the pages. The book was "THE beaut.ie GUIDE TO gorgeous" by Aisling McDermott.

As the make-up crazed, beauty obsessed female that I am, I just had to have this book. By the end of Christmas Day I had read the book cover to cover. TWICE. As far as Irish books on beauty go, this might as well be the Holy Bible. It has everything from how to make your lashes look long and "Bambi-esque", to horror stories about waxing in intimate nooks and crannies.

Although I ate the book up like my Christmas selection box, I still found myself yearning for more from Ms. McDermott and her beauty entourage. Firstly, there was a severe lack of pictures to support the helpful hints and tricks (not that we want to see any sort of graphic image of a bikini wax ta very much). I mean it doesnt take much to have a three step picture bit set up for a smokey eye tutorial does it lads?

Maybe its because I have some professional experience in the area of make up, but I just feel as if the goal that was set by the title of the book-i.e.-"the GUIDE TO GORGEOUS", wasn't really living up to its high standard. A more appropriate title in my opinion would have been- "GUIDE TO HELPING YOU FEEL A LITTLE LESS TROLL LIKE AND A LITTLE MORE HUMAN LIKE", ok maybe not but you get the idea....

At the end of the day, there is no such thing as a "miracle cure for ugliness". Sorry guys but its true. The book contains lists and lists of products which are supposedly the bees knees and all of that malark, but in all honesty it depends on the person using them. There is a reason that we all have different skin types, eye shapes, hair colour and body size...to make us unique. Like the majority of you all, I have days when I wake up and think 'why do I look so hideous?'. I honestly believe that God gave me the talent of being able to make people look more beautiful because I'm so damn ugly that I need to be able to work my way around a tube of mascara and some lip gloss in order to pass as an actual human being rather than the banshee-witch-ogre that I am underneath.

Having gone way off the mark, as I always do with these things, I would like to give my own list of beauty products which hopefully you will try and get great joy from, as I have. This is basically my own little version of the book, albeit a lot less polished. Here you are then:

Mascara----> MAX FACTOR MASTERPIECE MAX IN BLACK (its actually one of the best beauty products I have ever EVER used)

Concealer--->BOBBI BROWN CREAMY CONCEALER (I use Warm Ivory as I am a pale faced Irish cailin of course, this concealer melts into the skin and covers all sorts of yucky bits)

Foundation-->BARE MINERALS FOUNDATION IN BARELY LIGHT (Seriously I thought that a mineral powder foundation would cake and be flaky but its so smooth and stays on for at least eight hours, and also covers both foundation and powder, score!)

Multi-Use Item-->BENEFIT BENETINT (This works as a gorgeous cheek colour and also a lip tint, which makes your teeth look like gleaming pearls of loveliness)

Eyeliner----->MAC FLUIDLAST IN BLACKTRACK (Yes I know I know...Bobbi Brown Cream Gel Eyeliner is good too, but I prefer the less tacky consistency of the Mac one)

So there's five of my absolute favourite beauty items, as a tribute to the beaut.ie Guide to Gorgeous...a book that doesnt do exactly as it says on the shiny pink tin. Have a great Christmas and New Year pals.
